Top 4 Things to Do in Soldotna, AK

The sun sets well after 11 p.m. during June and much of July here in Soldotna, AK, helping extend seemingly endless adventure possibilities for anglers, backpackers, and sightseers who visit Alaska Legends Kenai River Lodge. You’re going to spend most of your time here in The Last Frontier fishing, hiking, and relaxing along the Kenai River, but you’ll also have plenty of time for R&R after your mid-day adventures. We recommend seeking out one of the top-rated things to do in Soldotna, such as golf, craft beer, and Alaska’s only homegrown winery.

4 Things to Do in Soldotna near Alaska Legends

To ensure that your well-deserved Alaskan getaway is nothing short of flawless, we’ve compiled four of our favorite things to do in Soldotna during the summer months based on personal experience and guest comments.

  • Bird Homestead Golf Course Soldotna doesn’t pretend to be a world-class golf destination, but the Kenai Peninsula’s lush forestry, meandering rivers, and jaw-dropping wildlife supply the perfect environment for 18 holes of golf. Bird Homestead Golf Course is a short drive along Funny River Road from our Kenai lodge. This unpretentious, deep woods nine-hole course costs just $27 for 18 holes, a bargain that’s too good to pass up!
  • Kenai River Brewing Co. – Craft breweries continue to pop up all over North America at a staggering pace. In 2016, we welcomed Kenai River Brewing Company and their beautiful, new brewpub to the “family.” The folks at Kenai River Brewing craft a wide variety of brews, ranging from a roasty oatmeal stout to a well-balanced, slightly fruity hefeweizen. You also cannot go wrong with their juicy burgers, “beer mac & cheese,” and hot wings.
  • Soldotna Progress Days – The annual Soldotna Progress Days are held on the fourth weekend of July, must to the appreciation of locals and visiting anglers alike. This yearly festival is highlighted by a FREE community BBQ, a rousing parade along Marydale Avenue and Binkley Street, a rodeo, live music, a craft bazaar, and so much more! Progress Days are easily one of the top three things to do in Soldotna – unfortunately, it’s only three days long!
  • Alaska Berries – Alaska’s only homegrown winery rests right here in Soldotna. The Kenai Peninsula’s climate certainly is a challenge as only certain plants can thrive in our region, but the brilliant folks at Alaska Berries have found a way to craft award-winning wine, jam, and syrup throughout the summer months. Their small tasting room is open from 12-6 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. They’ve won many awards for their rhubarb, blueberry, gooseberry, and redcurrant wine.
